SXSW Art
Public Art in Austin, Texas. – Judi Bonilla, first Gerontologist to speak at SXSW is warm up act for FLOTUS

FLOTUS was at this week’s SXSW Music Conference in Austin, Texas, First Lady Michelle Obama share her thoughts about aging, “You talk about your 30s being good? Your 50s — wooo! Phenomenal. I plan to go into my 60s blazing. Blazing! And trying to be as fly and as healthy as I can. Remember that 106-year-old woman, Ms. McLaurin, who was dancing with us? I told her… I want to be just like you! 106 and movin and groovin!”

Call it Synchronicity? Timing? A few days ago I had the honor of speaking at SXSW. My proposal was selected from over 1,300+ submissions, and made me the first gerontologist to speak at SXSW.

I started my talk by saying at SXSW you learn What’s New and What’s Coming. I said I was part of the what’s coming! My topic: Aging The Opportunity For Continuing Education, the goal was planting the seed about reframing how we as a society see aging!

FLOTUS planning legacy
Legacy Building As You Age – “You talk about your 30s being good? Your 50s — wooo! Phenomenal. I plan to go into my 60s blazing.

A couple of years ago when @FLOTUS received her AARP card I started thinking…When her daughter Malia is about ready to receive her AARP card, @FLOTUS will be entering into her mid 80s. I believe that age is a time for creativity, productivity, and legacy building. I shared this sentiment with those who attended my talk as well as the slides includes in this post! Cheers to Flotus for talking about aging! I’m happy to open for her anytime.
